One 3D printable Headphone Stand, a Whole Wardrobe of Looks

What if you could change the look of your headphone stand whenever you wanted, without printing an entirely new one?

That's the idea behind my newest Artistry by Anna project: a 3D-printable headphone stand with interchangeable decorative faces.

One day, your desk could have a pretty pink bow. The next, a cheeky little Halloween ghost. When Christmas rolls around, you could swap in something festive. All while keeping the same stand.

I wanted something practical, but I also wanted something I could have fun with.

I actually originally made this a week ago because I just wanted one myself.

Why I Decided to Design My Own 3D printable headphone stand with interchangeable faces

When I started looking for 3D-printable headphone stands, I found plenty of lovely designs on makerworld and some other sites. But from what I could find, once you'd printed a particular design, that was the look you were stuck with.

If I wanted a different style, I'd need to print another whole stand and then get stuck with all these stands and alot of wasted filament.

And I don't know about you, but I like variety!

I love changing little things around my workspace, especially for different seasons, moods, decor changes and holidays. I wanted a headphone stand that could change with me, without having to print the same functional parts over and over again.

So I decided to design my own.

The idea was simple: print the stand once, then change its personality with interchangeable decorative faces.

A Practical Print With a Little Personality

The stand itself gives your headphones somewhere to live. The curved top supports the headphones, while the decorative face attaches to the front.

It's the face that brings the personality.

I've been having so much fun experimenting with different designs, including sweet little ghosts, bubbling cauldrons, potion bottles, a spider with a crystal ball, and pretty coquette bows, because Halloween is right around the corner atm.

Some are cute, some are spooky, and some are just pretty because I liked it!

The fun part is seeing how different the very same stand can look with each new face.

And of course, because you're printing the designs yourself, you can have fun with the colours too.

Maybe you love soft pinks and creams. Perhaps you prefer bold Halloween purples and greens. Or maybe you have a completely different colour combination in mind.

I'd actually love to see how everyone makes these designs their own with all the different colour combinations!

How Do the Interchangeable Faces Work?

I wanted the faces to be easy to change without needing glue or permanently attaching them to the stand.

My design uses a ball-and-socket snap-fit connector.

A small rounded fitting on the back of each decorative face presses into a matching socket on the stand. This allows you to attach a face, remove it, and replace it with another compatible design.

I chose this design because I tried other connectors in the slicer but for something like this, I was worried over time those connectors might snap off or come loose from wear.

The stand is made up of three main pieces:

  • The base

  • The upright headphone support

  • Your chosen decorative face

Once you've printed and assembled your stand, you can keep using those main parts and print additional faces whenever you fancy a different look.

How to Change a Face

Changing the look is simple:

  1. Remove your headphones and hold the stand steady.

  2. Support the decorative face and pop it out.

  3. Line up the new face's ball fitting with the socket.

  4. Gently press it into place and check that it's seated securely before putting your headphones back.

As with any 3D-printed snap-fit connection, the fit can vary depending on your printer, filament and settings. Make sure the connector is clean, and never force it if it feels too tight. There is one more connection, and that's on the bottom base of the stand, where you connect the stand pole to the base square. That connection is quite solid, so at first its a little harder to push on, but push it! It'll pop on hard and stay put, that ain't coming off, don't worry!

One Stand, So Many Possibilities

Now that I've created the interchangeable system, I have so many ideas for where to take it next.

My plan is to build a growing collection of themed 3 face packs that can be used with the same compatible stand.

Imagine having a little collection of faces you bring out throughout the year.

A spooky set for Halloween. Something festive for Christmas. Pretty florals for spring. A few everyday favourites that you can swap around whenever your desk needs a fresh look and storing the faces away takes up waaaay less space then entire stands attached to each.

I also love the idea of creating themed packs for different interests, whether that's gaming, books, animals, or something completely unexpected.

The best part is that once you have the stand, you don't need to print another entire headphone holder just to change its appearance.

You can simply print a new compatible face.

Help Me Choose What to Design Next!

This is where I'd really love your input.

I'm planning more interchangeable face packs, but there are so many possible themes that I don't know which ones to tackle first!

What would you love to see?

Christmas? Easter? Florals? Cats? Gaming? Something bookish? Or perhaps a theme I haven't even thought of yet?

Leave a comment below and tell me what you'd like me to design.

Your suggestions might just inspire one of my next collections!

Show Me Your Finished Prints ♡

One of the things I love most about creating digital 3D-printing designs is knowing that other people can bring them to life in their own way.

If you've printed one of my headphone stands or interchangeable faces, I'd absolutely love to see it.

Share a photo in the comments here if you're able to, or share a photo in the comments of my social media accounts when you post your finished creation. (There's links to those too below)

Show me your colour combinations, your favourite faces, and how you've styled your stand in your own workspace.

Seeing what you create with my designs is such a special part of this little business.
